18__ SALERO MINING & MANUFACTURING COMPANY - Pima County, Arizona Territory. This was one of the earliest Arizona mining companies. Organized in 1875. Silver mine. Vignette at left shows Henry Wells of the famous Wells Fargo Company. He was the first president of the company. It should be noted that a fully-issued certificate signed by Henry Wells is worth from $3,000 to $6,000!!! This one, however, is not issued.

1895 GOLDEN QUEEN MINING & MILLING COMPANY - Incorporated in Louisiana - Mines in Arizona. This was a Tombstone, Arizona operation.

1906 TROY MANHATTAN COPPER COMPANY - Property Located in Troy - Pinal County, Arizona. The Troy Manhattan had 5 claims on 1,200 acres. There were 7,000 feet of tunnels and the main lode was 800 feet underground. The ore contained from 8 - 16% copper. The company had continuous problems with equipment and did not exist for long.

1916 MONSTER CHIEF MINING COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1916) Under the Laws of Delaware - 100 share certificate issued to George Graham Rice, who was a well-known Nevada promoter / swindler. This was one of many stock scams he ran over the years. His name is stamped lightly on the front, but his actual signature is on the reverse. The Monster Chief property was near Jerome, Arizona. It was undeveloped with no camp or mining equipment. Barret Ridgely, company president.

1906 BLACK MOUNTAIN MINING COMPANY - Territory of Arizona - This company owned several claims in the Patagonia & Pajorita Mining Districts of Santa Cruz County, Arizona. The company's main property was the Cerro Prieto Gold Mine, 26 miles southeast of Magdalena, Sonora, Mexico. The ore was reported to average $7 per ton.

1907 AMALGAMATED MINING & OIL COMPANY - Arizona stamped into the corporate seal. $50 large format bond (only the top portion is shown in the scan) Payable in gold coin of the United States. The actual operation was in Yavapai County in the Chino Valley area north of Prescott, Arizona.

1908 THE TRIBUNE GOLD MINING & MILLING COMPANY - Territory of Arizona - Mining properties in Sonora, Mexico - Large format $100 bond (only the top portion is shown in the scan). Payable in gold coin of the United States. I am told this company also had ties to Tombstone, Arizona.

1915 RAY CONSOLIDATED COPPER COMPANY - Mines at Ray, Pinal County, Arizona - At the town of Ray, the company owned 126 patented mining claims totaling 2,143 acres. Another 130 acres at Ray Junction were used for railroad purposes

1900 LA FORTUNA MINING COMPANY - Check with orange 2 cent imprinted revenue stamp at center. This mine was in Yuma County Arizona. My research indicates it was near the town of Blaisdell. The funds were drawn from The Nevada National Bank of San Francisco.

1908 UNITED POWDER COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1907) Under the Laws of Arizona - Blasting powder and dynamite are a vital part of any lode mining operation and stocks from early companies that produced these are quite scarce. This is the first example I have seen from this company.

1906 CHIHUAHUA & SINALOA DEVELOPMENT COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1901) Under the Laws of Arizona - The information I could find on this company was sketchy. To the best of my knowledge, the company was involved in mining and railroad development. Some of the locations were in the states of Chihuahua and Sinaloa in Mexico.

1909 CONSOLIDATED METALS COMPANY - Incorporated Under the Laws of the Territory of Arizona. Large certificate with three nice mining vignettes.

1911 THE RED BEAR MINING COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1910) Under the laws of the State of Arizona - Another great name for a mining company. The most unique feature on this certificate is the little red bear holding a walking stick printed near the bottom. Signed by Wm. S. Gould as president. An excellent addition to any Arizona historical collection!
