1878 THE BERTHA & EDITH GOLD MINING COMPANY - Goochland County, Virginia - Located 3.25 miles northeast of Columbia on the east side of Byrd Creek. Prior to the Civil War, placer deposits were worked along the Maple and Camp tributaries of Byrd Creek. The Bertha & Edith GMC began development work on the property in 1877, opening the Oak Hill and Maple Branch Quartz veins. A 20-stamp mill was used to crush the gold ore. Price - $146

1912 INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOBILE LEAGUE TIRE & RUBBER COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1910) at Buffalo, New York. Issued to L.B. McCornick. This was an early stock scam that raised over half a million dollars but no cars or tires were actually produced. Company president A.C. Bidwell signed the certificate - he was apparently arrested in 1916.

1860 UNION MINING COMPANY OF BALTIMORE CITY - Maryland - This pre Civil War company mined clay for making bricks. The operation was located at Mt. Savage in Allegany County, which is in western Maryland.

1922 THE FOUNTAIN OIL COMPANY - Illinois - Vignette shows a panoramic view of an early oil field with many wells and storage tanks. This certificate has a few small tears around the border.

1918 THE TRAPSHOOTER TRIANGLE OIL COMPANY - Arkansas City, Kansas (Incorporated in 1918 in Arizona) - Stock certificates with great company names like this one are always popular with collectors. Bright red corporate seal. Shares were 50 cents each. Comes with the original letter included with the stock at time of purchase.

1913 UNION COPPER MINES COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1907) Under the Laws of the State of Maine. 100 share certificate. Detailed vignette of the inner-workings of a mine.

1882 LAS NUEVE MINAS DE SANTA MARIA GOLD & SILVER MINING COMPANY - Incorporated Under the Laws of the State of New York - Location of Mines, State of Sonora, Republic of Mexico - This was a Mexican mine that was apparently funded from the U.S. Very attractive 100 share certificate printed by the American Bank Note Company, New York. The picture shows an Indian warrior with bow & arrows. Snow-capped mountains and a city can be seen in the background.

1880 THE SYKES PLACER MINING COMPANY - Incorporated (in 1880) Under the Laws of the State of New York - After much research, I could find no information about this early placer gold mining company. Since I acquired it with a number of Colorado certificates, I have a hunch it is also from Colorado. With no confirmation I decided to post it here.

This is an ORIGINAL STOCKHOLDER'S BONUS that was issued with the stock to the left. It even has the same stock # 9453. The bonus states that the trustee "is entitled to buy for his personal use only, our tires at cost of manufacture as long as he continues to own the said stock". Also signed by A.C. Bidwell.
